At Inspector's discretion, final report as prepared and wet -
sealed by Architect may be required — including structural
fitness of existing foundation.
On September 18 my office performed a site visit for the purpose of observing an existing
agricultural shed located at 1973 County Road 210.
The shed on the property is currently used as storage for agricultural equipment and the Owner
would like it to be designated as a carport by Garfield County prior to a potential sale of the
property.
The shed was built sometime in the early 80's (1982-1984) and has weathered dozens of
winter cycles.
In my opinion, with the following enhancements, this existing shed can be used as a residential
carport.
Low eave shed wall:
provide additional 2x4 treated face mounted studs at the 2 outside low eave bays, grid line 3,
for "V" shape supplemental point load transfer
connect 2x4 to each wall purlin with 2-2 1/2" wood screws
add Simpson H2.5A hurricane tie down clips to each N/S running rafter, attach to top (e) purlin,
low cave side.
High eave opening:
at high eave, grid line 1, provide 1 3/4" x 11 7/8" LVL from (x) log post Al to (x) log post A2.
run LVL 18" beyond (x) log post A2
connectors at each log post, 2x Everbilt 1/2 in. -13 x 10 in. zinc plated carriage bolt,
with washer & hex nut, inside face of log post
at high eave, grid line 1, provide 1 3/4" x 11 7/8" LVL from (x) log post A4 to (x) log post A3,
run LVL 18" beyond (x) log post A3
connectors at each log post, 2x Everbilt 1/2 in. -13 x 10 in. zinc plated carriage bolt,
with washer & hex nut, inside face of log post
at high eave, grid line 1, provide 1 3/4" x 11 7/8" LVL from (x) log post A2 to (x) log post A3, by
through bolt connection to the overlap LVL's
connectors on each side, 4x Everbilt 1/2 in. -13 x 4 in. zinc plated carriage bolt,
with washer & hex nut, inside face of LVL
add Simpson H2.5A hurricane tie down clips to each N/S running rafter, attach to supplemental
LVL support, high eave side.
Middle, rear bay purlins:
Lowe eave side, middle bay, provide additional 2x4 treated face mounted studs in pattern
indicated on section.
connect 2x4 to each wall purlin with 2-2 1/2" wood screws
sister new 2x8 treated stud to top purlin, middle bay
connect 2x4 to top purlin with 4" wood screws as shown on section
add 2- treated 2x8 new roof purlins at middle back bay
2x8 purlins to bear on rear built up top purlin at low wall
2x8 purlins to be flush with midspan beam and connected with Simpson LU26
