missed inspection of footers
Dear Building lnspector,
I am the Architect of Record on the Gessele Detached Garage, permit no. BLRE-7-12-2562.
I originally prepa¡ed construction drawings for lntegrated Elements, a contractor whose
performance I arh familiar with. lntegrated Elements filed and received a building permit with
the County for this project over a year ago.
Since then the owners decided to go with at least two other contractors.
I was approached by one of these contractors yesterday and informed that the contractor
before him had formed and poured the footers without inspe.ction.
Assuming the following assumptions are generally true, I reluctantly provide you with this
letter of approval in place of the contractor doing his due diligence and getting the proper
inspections required by Garfield County.
Assumption 1, adequate scarification such that footer rests on undisturbed native soil
Assumption 2, concrete mix meets or exceeds specified 3000 psi
Assumption 3, vertical rebar was placed per drawings prior to pouring footer.
I was provided with site specific photographs that document the formwork and rebar layout
of the construction prior to concrete pour.
Based on the information I have received, it appears that the rebar sizing and quantity meets
or exceeds the requirements of Garfield County and IRC 2009 standards.
ln addition, based on the information I have received', it appears that the depth and width of
the strip footer meets or exceeds the requirements of Garfield County and IRC 2009
standards.
