I am currently reviewing plans for a new Accessory Dwelling Unit addition to an existing Garage/Shop located at 58
County Road 333 in Silt. However, we have come across an issue that needs to be addressed before we can finalize our
review and issue a building permit for the new ADU Addition.
According to our records, the garage/shop building that you want to adjoin this new ADU onto never received a building
permit from the Building Dept. As such, before we can approve the new ADU Addition, you will need to provide us with
a Structural Engineer's report certifying that the existing structure complies with current building codes. In addition, we
will require that the Engineer provide you with specific detailing requirements where the new & existing structures will
adjoin — particularly at the foundation, where it appears that the new/existing buildings are at different floor levels. The
Engineer must be a Colorado licensed Professional Engineer and we need to have this report/certification prior to
issuance of a building permit. I have attached to this email a one -page description of our requirements for obtaining a
building permit for an existing structure so that you can share this information with your Engineer.
Please note that this requirement for the Engineer's certification is due to the fact that the new ADU is an addition to
the existing non -permitted building. If the ADU was a free-standing structure this requirement would not apply.
