On February 9 and 11, 2021, we visited the site of the Valenzuela Residence at Lot 28
of the Callicotte Ranch subdivision near Carbondale in Garfield County, Colorado to observe the
Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) installation pursuant to OWTS Permit # SEPT-
6586. At the time of our first site visit, the contractor had installed a 1,250-gallon two
compartment NORWESCO poly septic tank, the new sewer line, a distribution box, and three
chamber trenches. The tank, distribution box, and chambers were installed level, with access to
the distribution box brought to grade. The three chamber trenches consisted of 13 ARC 36
chambers per row, for 39 total chambers and a total STA of 585 ft 2. This was less than the
minimum STA required of 735 ft2. We advised the contractor to install 10 additional chambers,
per the engineer’s design, as well as install an effluent filter in the outlet tee of the septic tank
and bring access to the tank to grade with risers. During our February 11 site visit, the
contractor had addressed the issues that we noted in our first site visit. In our opinion, this
system was installed in general conformance with Garfield County OWTS Regulations. No
further action or review from Garfield County Environmental Health is required regarding this
permit. Please provide an As-Built drawing of the system, when available, for our files.
