Dave, I am sure you noticed that our construction documents were issued 4 weeks prior to the soils report issue date. I never make the 'assumptions'when designing for'assumed conditions.' Those assumed soils properties come from the geotechnical engineer. At any rate, after a close look, there are no changes necessary to the foundation design: it is in conformance with the dual bearing properties as recommended by H-P/Kumar in their report no. 20-7-414 (dated A7-28-20). I am reviewing your geotechnical engineers report (K+A project 2A-7-414 and observation of recent excavation dated August24,2A2l. I notice Daniel Hardin states recommended for an allowable bearing pressure of 1 ,500 psf (or 2,000 psf for footings wider than 3 feet). Sheet S-1 , general structural notes dated 6/3012020 from Brian Kurtz names an assumed soil bearing capacity names an assumed soil bearing capacity at 2,000 psf. Sheet S2 Footing widths appear variable along the four faces of the detached garage / ADU..... from 28 inches along two faces of the building to those exceeding 3 feet. I am emailing now to verify and confirm the Kurtz & Associates structural engineer is still comfortable with the designed soil bearing and expresses no need to amend the original footing widths? I am striving to avoid confusion with the "red lines" printed on the issued FIELD COPY, so it is clearfor both the building inspector and builders on site.
