Tom,
We get our fire retardant wood from All Weather Wood in Denver. They apply the Flamepro treatment at their facility
in Denver. This is a liquid treatment that is pressure applied to the wood so it penetrates the cells of the wood, a
similar process to pressure treated lumber and plywood for wet applications. lt is for interior use, meaning it must be
covered and not exposed to the elements. They are currently out of 2xI2 and they said it would be a couple months
before they have new material treated. They only treat L6' long 2x12's. I have attached the submittal information for
the treatment they use. They use this treatment on both dimensional lumber and sheet goods.
Thanks,
Josh Nelson

Andy,
I have added a note stating that the wood structural members / wood sheathing will both be fire treated materials.

The rafters could be fire treated with fire treated decking or the rafters could be steel framing with fire treated
wood decking. The roofing assembly should be L hour rated. I am sure there are other options as well.

Andy,
Sorry we didn't address that aspect. I think I understand your request.
6O3.7 Allowable Møteriøls
Combustibte materiols shotl be permitted in buildings of Type I or ll construction in the following opplicotions
and in occordonce with Sections 603.7.7 through 603.1.3:
5
Fire-retordont-treoted wood sholl be permitted in
Nonbeoring partitions where the required fire-resistonce rating is 2 hours or lessa
a
a
Nonbeoring exterior walls where fire-resistance-rated construction is not required.
Roof construction, including girders, trusses, framing and decking.
I believe we need to call out fire-retardant-treated wood for the 2x12" rafters. We may go with treated trusses if
the 2x12" are difficult to source.

I believe that covers the one-hour requirement, but the noncombustible aspect still needs to be addressed per Sec
603. There was another project on the same building that utilized heavy timber and fire retardant treated
wood. See specifically 603.1 regarding roof construction and fire retardant wood.

Subiect: Patio Roof Structure
As per the type of construction for this building of noncombustible Type 11 A or one hour, the proposed 2xL2's
rafters with wood decking will not work. Please see Chapter 6 and Table 601of the 2015 IBC for specific
requirements for this roof framing.
