Sabject: Observation of Pad Excavations, Proposed Pole Bam, 1458 County F:oad233,
Garfield County, Color¿do
DearMr. Qarza:
As requesteð, arqresentative of Kumar & Associates observed the pad excavations at the
subject site on October 6,2022 to evaluate the soils exposed for foundation support. The
{indings of our observations and recornmendations for ths foundation support are presented in
this report. The services \ryere performed in accordance with our agreement for professional
engineenngservices to you dated September 30, 2022.
The proposed 30' by 50' pole barn will be supported by 15 spread footing pads designed for ¿n
assumed allou¡able soil bearing pressure of 2,000 psf.
At the time of our visit to the site, eleven foundation padexcavations had been cut about 4 feet
below the surrounding ground surface. The soils exposed in the bottom of ths excavation
consisled of slightly clayey, silty sand with gravel-sizs rock fragments. No free water was
encountered in the excavations and the soils were slightly moist to moist.
Considering tho conditions exposed in the excavation and the nafure of the proposed
constructioa, spread footings place,ð on the undisturbed natural soil designed for an allowable
soil bearing pressure of 2,000 psf can be used for support of the proposed pole bam. The
exposed soils tend to compress when wetted and there could be some post-construction
settlement of the foundation if the bearing soils become wet. f'ootings should be a minimurn
width af 16 inches for continuous walls anâ2 feet for calumns. Loose and disturbed soils (and
existing fi1l) in footing areas should be removed and the bearing level extended down to the
undisfurbed natsral soils. Structural fill placed within floor slab areâs can consist of the on-site
soils compacted to at least95Yo of standard Proctor density at a moisture content near optimum.
Back{tll placed around the structure should be compacted anóthe surface graded to prsvent
ponóing within at least 5 feet of the building.
Ths recommendations submitted in this letter are based on our observation of the soils exposed
within the foundation excavation and do not include subsurface exploration to evalu¿le the
subsurface conditions within the loaded depth of foundation influence. This study is based on
the assumplion that soils beneath the footings have equal or better support than those exposed.
The risk of foundation movemontmay be greater than indicated in this report because of possible

variations in the subsurface conditions. In order to reveal the nature and extent of variations in
the subsurface canditions below the excavation, drilling would be required. It is possible the
data obtained by subsurface exploration could change lhe recommendations contained in this
letler. Our services do not include determining tho presenceo prevention or possibility of mold or
otherbiological contaminants (MOBC) developing ia the fr¡ture. If the client is concemed about
MOBC, then ¿ professional in this special field of practice shosld be consulted.
