On October 10, 2022, Garfield County Public Health visited the site of the residence at 24 County
Road 111 near Carbondale in Garfield County, Colorado to observe the OWTS installation pursuant to
OWTS Permit # SEPT‐7608. At the time of our site visit, the contractor had installed the new 1,000‐
gallon two‐compartment concrete septic tank with a high‐head pump in the second chamber of the
tank, the pump line, the Automatic Distributing Valve (ADV), and the unlined sand filter bed Soil
Treatment Area (STA). The STA was 13’ x 29’ (total of 377 ft2 of STA) and consists of four laterals with
5/32” orifices facing down at 2 feet spacing. Orifice shields were installed under each orifice on the
laterals. The laterals were placed directly on the sand filter material. The new tank and ADV were
installed level with access provided at ground level. The ADV was installed at the high point of the
OWTS. The laterals ended in an upward‐facing 90‐degree ell with a ball valve to allow flushing of the
laterals. Inspection ports were provided at each corner of the bed. Additionally, we were provided with
an installation observation letter (dated February 20, 2023) by the designer that indicated proper start‐
up of the pump and system. In our opinion, this system was installed in general conformance with
Garfield County OWTS Regulations. No further action or review from Garfield County Environmental
Health is required regarding this permit.
