As requested, structural steel special inspection was conducted per the
IBC 2015 Edition - Chapter 17: Structural Tests and Special Inspection and the
City of Glenwood Springs requirements. I arrived on -site at 9:00 AM. I met with
Mr. Patrick Owens with Mountain and Valley Iron in Grand Junction, CO. to
review project requirements and material ready for inspection. I reviewed the
welding procedure and the welder certifications and found them to be
acceptable. Copies are kept of file with Jason Pluhar at Mountain and Valley Iron.
Continuous visual welding inspection was conducted on the 2 of the 4
bent beam frames at the front of the residence according to the on -site drawings
supplied by DB Structural Design. I observed the Complete Joint Penetration
(CJP) groove welds at the top of the bent beams. Mr. Patrick Owens was the
certified welder of record. All fit -up and preheat were checked prior to welding.
The following parameters were observed to be compliant with the requirements
of the governing WPS:
• Base metal composition
• Filler metal composition
• Joint configuration and base metal preparation

• Shielding gas and flow rate
• Joint fit -up
• Root opening
• Preheat temperature
• Interpass temperature
• Welding current characteristics

Upon completion, all CJP groove welds were observed to be compliant
with project specifications and the visual inspection requirements as stated in
Clause 8 of the AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code — Steel: 2020 Edition.
Continued inspection will conducted at a later date.
