On December 1, 2021, we issued an Alteration OWTS permit for the proposed changes
to the OWTS at the residence at 155 Maroon Mesa Road 241 near Carbondale in Garfield
County, Colorado (OWTS Permit # SEPT-7242). Despite requirements on the permit to do so,
Garfield County Public Health was not informed of the completion of improvements to the
system and was not requested to inspect the system prior to backfill. However, on May 16,
2023, we received an inspection report (dated May 9, 2023) and a repair verification letter from
CBO, Inc. (CBO) regarding the system (dated May 16, 2023). In the May 9, 2023 letter, CBO
indicated that a 500-gallon poly septic tank had been installed in accordance with OWTS permit
No. SEPT-7255 and that the system was in good working order. However, CBO also noted
several discrepancies to the Regulations were noted. Specifically, the manhole lids on the
existing 1,250-gallon two compartment septic tank and the 500-gallon poly septic tank were not
brought to grade, there was not a sanitary tee on the inlet of the 500-gallon tank, and there was
not an effluent filter on the outlet tee of the 500-gallon tank. In the May 16, 2023 letter, CBO
indicated that all repairs required to bring the system into Regulatory compliance were
completed. In our opinion, this system has been repaired to be in general conformance with
Garfield County OWTS Regulations. No further action or review from Garfield County
Environmental Health is required regarding this permit.
