Fred Jarrnan, Department Ðirector Garfìeld Couniy Planning Departnlênt 109 E¡ghth Street Glenwood Springs, CO 81601 Re: Sunlight View ll Subdivision Dear Fred, This letter is to inform you that the Glenwood Springs Fire Departmgnt is resett¡ng the square footage for the Domestic water system: The water supply for ihe potäble donlestic and fire hydrant system is supplied by a tank that also supplies the Srrnf ight I subdivision s1lstems. On October 3I,2012 we tested lhe domestic system by flowing several of the fire hydrants on it. Our test results showed the system produced 800-L200 GPM at 20 P.S.l. these flows are the same as the sysrem produced back ln 2000-2001. By talile 8105.1 in the 2009 IFC Type V-B rated structure which ¡nost homes {R-3's) that are 0-3,600 square feet require a fire flow of 1,500'GPM for lhe duration of 2 hours, The domestic system does not meet thÎs IFC flre flow requirement. t o8 l0l VTESTSTHSTREET GLENWOOD SPRTNGS, COLORADO 81601 970-384-ó480 FAX 970-945-8506 Ð Non-Potable water system: The non-potable irrlgation and fire hydrant system is supplied by irrigation water from the Atkinson Ditch. We tested hydrants on this system on October 3L,Z:OLZ and found the flow to be unreliable. When the hydrants were first opened the materlal flowing out of them was mostly mud. After the flow cleared ln 40-50 secotlds some of the hydrants flowed between 900-1,000 GPM and for one the flow was so low it did not register on our Hose Monster tesler, We also discussed the reliability of the flow in theAtkinson Ditch with the State Water Commissioner, Jake DeWolfe. Mr. Ðewolfe ls in charge of overseelng this irrlgâtlon wâter system and he would not consider the flow in the Atkinson Ditch a reliable water source to be cqunted 9n,74/7 365,days a year for fire flow.
