Thompson Construction, Inc. ATTN x Terry Thompson FROM x Adrienne Prosser, PE DATE x 20 July 2023 PROJECT x Residence Callicotte Ranch Lot 14 PROJECT No.x 22011 This memo is written in response to corrections as requested by the Garfield County Building Department and clarification as requested by the builder. x Sheet S211b - Grid 2/L The (4)- 14” VL beam was intended to bear on a (3)-2x8 pressure-treated column oriented flat to the foundation wall and bearing on the pad footing below. Due to footing depth, this was not able to be achieved. The built-up column was attached directly to the face of the concrete wall with (8)- 5/8”Ø x 9” wedge anchors. o This connection has been reviewed and found to be acceptable. x Sheet S222A – Grid 11/K The exterior, heavy-timber column exhibits checking along its length. o The checking is not of structural concern at this point. However, care should be taken to ensure moisture is not allowed to collect in the check and compromise the timber. x Sheet S222a – Grid F/10-11 The window header, spanning approximately 8’-0” is comprised of (3)- 2x4s o This header is acceptable in this condition. x Sheet S222a – Grid K/7-10 The exterior header and columns are found to be (3)- 11 7/8” VL header, bearing on a (2)- 2x6 column at each end, per plan. o Structurally, this is acceptable. x Sheet S222a – Grid 7 The wall between the kitchen and living room is called out as a shear wall, but it was not framed as such. The request was made to find an alternate solution to transfer the lateral loads. o This wall needs to be sheathed as a shear wall as originally indicated on plan. Metal wall bracing straps are only intended to resist racking during construction and are not designed to replace structural panel shear wall load-carrying components. x Sheet S222a – Grid B The wall between the garage and house was framed up to the underside of the flat roof rafters. The wall framing then continued above the flat roof to its interface with the garage roof above. Therefore, the flat roof rafters are bearing on the wall, rather than hanging from a ledger. o This is acceptable. x Sheet S222c – Grid 0.A-A / 3-6 This roof was originally shown as a stick framed shed roof but was later revised as a truss-framed gable roof. o This is acceptable.
