Sequence of Operation:
I. Instrument Air Compressors
The system is equipped with two oil flooded rotary screw air compressors (C-650A and C-650B) which operate in primary/standby operation. When commanded “on” the lead compressor will energize
and modulate to meet the system discharge pressure set point (typically 150 psig) as sensed by the system pressure transmitter located at the discharge of the compressor package. During normal
operation should the system pressure fall below the load set point while the primary compressor is running, the standby compressor will start to help contribute to the system. When only one
compressor is needed, the internal sequencing will shut one of the compressors off. The internal sequencing will also rotate lead compressors automatically to maintain equal running hours. If either
compressor encounters a fault, it automatically shuts down and generates a fault signal. High pressure set point: 175 PSI. Low system pressure factory set point 8 PSI. High temperature factory set
point 232°F.
II. Instrument Air Dryers
The system is equipped with two non-heated desiccant air dryers (D-650A and D-650B) which are mounted on the horizontal wet tank with its respective compressor. The dryer will be online as long as
it is powered on. The dryers are equipped with dewpoint demand controls that will halt the purge process when the dewpoint setpoint is reached. It will remain this way until the dewpoint degrades
enough to trigger the start of the regeneration process. The dryers are equipped with pre and after filters as well as a three valve bypass for maintenance purposes. During the normal operation, the air
dryers will cycle back and forth between its two towers approximately every four minutes, regenerating in one tower while drying through the other tower. Inlet air pressure alarm set at 58 PSI.
III. Building HVAC
Building heating and cooling is controlled by a wall mounted thermostat. If the building internal temperature exceeds 80°F, either building fan/louver 1 or 2 (depending on which compressor is running)
will run, maintaining a cooler temperature inside the building. If the building internal temperature drops below 55°F, the building unit heater will turn on to maintain a warmer temperature inside the
building. The air compressors have thermostatically controlled “cold weather kits” installed to help maintain oil temperature and prevent freezing of controls.
IV. Compressed Air Flow
A. During normal operation, either air compressor will be running, discharging directly into its wet tank. From there, the air is routed through the air dryer pre filter, through the air dryer and discharges
through the after filter. Both compressor/dryer packages run into a 500 gallon dry air receiver (V-650). From there the compressed air is directed into the customer’s instrument air system.
B. Condensate drains from the compressors moisture trap, the wet tanks and dryer pre filters is collected and routed to a drain manifold inside the building. From the manifold, condensate is collected
in a 250 gallon collection tank (TK-651).
