Civil and Env¡ronmental Consulting and Dasign September 28,2023 Dan and Shonna Scott 0080 North Meadow Drive Rifle, CO 81650 RE: O\ilTS Repair,0080 N. Meadow Dr., Garfield County' CO -OWTS Report Dear Dan & Shonna: The purpose of this correspondence is to inform you about the replacement onsite wastewater treatment system (OWTS) designed for the failing one of your Residence. The project is located in Garfield County, between Silt and Rifle at 0080 North Meadow Drive. Interior plumbing will remain the same and drain by gravity to the OWTS. The residence is served by an existing water system. The OWTS is not within a 1O0-year flood plain boundary. There are practical constraints thatyou should be aware of when considering the proper design, construction, and operation. Subsurface The soil was assumed to be Type 3 soils with an LTAR value approximated as 0.35 gallons per day per square foot (GPD/sq.ft.). This is based on previous percolation test results on file at Garfield County Environmental Health Department. To verif that this assumption is correct, two profile holes will need to be excavated and an inspection performed to veriff this assumption and that no bedrock or high groundwater table is within an 8' depth of the leaching area. The Contractor will need excavate these holes in the approximate locations shown on the plans prior to beginning construction. Coordinate with this office for an inspection of the profile holes to veriff soil type. Changes to the design may be warcanted based on these results. Desisn Calculations The residence has 3 bedrooms and using Garfield Counfy Table 6-1 for a 4-bedroom residence, this yields 450 gallons per day (GPD) total. The design calculations for sizing of the septic system and the leach field follow: o Scott Residence: 3 bedrooms:450 GPD o Based on soil evaluation and percolation tests results, LTAR: 0.35 GPD/sq.ft. o Minimum absorption aÍea:450 GPD / 0.35 : I,286 sq.ft. o Required septic tank volume: 1,000 gallons per Garfield County Table 9-1. Although, a three-compartment tank of 1,250 may be used instead, depending on availability. o Dosing frequency : 4 doses per day; dose volume: 450 GPD /4 doses : 173 gal./dose o Orenco Siphon Model #310 should be used to draw down liquid 10" in the dosing area of the three-compartment septic tank. 826%Grand Avenue, Glenwood Springs, CO 81601 P: 970.945.5544 F; 970.945.5558 www.mountaincross-eng.com Sçræëøidr'æe September,2023 Page2 of3 The component manufacturers are tvptcal for ihç arca, Älternatlvos may be constdøed by contacting this office. Construction must be in accordance with the specifïcations of Garfield Çounty EnvironmenJal Health= the OV/TS permit ard úis de'eiga. Topsoil should be placed over the OWTS and planted with native grasses, No large vegetation ans!¡+-r ptrants with taproots shor-rld be planted over the absorption area nor grasse€ tha{ req+ire excessive irrigation. Calculæions ¡ne affashed. Sètb&eks The location for the septic and dosing tanks are limited by setback requirements per Garfield County and the State of Colorado. These include: o 50' FROM WELL r 10' FROM WATER SUPPLY LINE o 5' FROM BUILDING WITH BASEMENT o 10' FROM PROPERTY LINE o 10' FROM LINED POND, DITCH, OR STREAM o 50' FROM WATER BODY o 10' FROM CREST OF BANK o 5, FROM LEACH FIELD The leach fìeld setback requirements are: r 100' FROM WELL t 25' FROM WATER SUPPLY LINE o 20, FROM BUILDING WITH BASEMENT o 10' FROM PROPERTY LINE o 10' FROM LINED POND, DITCH, OR STREAM . 50' FROM WATER BODY c 25'FROM CREST OF BANK o 5' FROM SEPTIC TANK The setback requirements deal primarily with buildings and potential contamination from the septic tank, dosing tank, and leach field to either culinary water or surface water. These setbacks have been included on the plans for reference. Two rows of the leaching area will be within the25' setback from the crest of the bank. The code allows this setback to be less if a 30-mil PVC liner is used to direct flows downward. This liner has been shown on the plans lining the trenches within the25'. Operation Information and Maintenance The Owner will need to be responsible for the operation and management of the OWTS. Geo- fabrics or plastics should not be used over the absorption area. No heavy equipment, parking of machinery, or materials should be placed on the absorption area. Livestock should not graze on the absorption area. Plumbing fixtures should be checked to ensure that no additional water is Mountain Cross Engineering. lnc. Grease should not be placed in drains and grease tmps should be installed upstream of the septic tank but downstream fi'om any kitchen. Loading from a water softener should not be discharged into the OWTS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the O\MTS. The OWTS is engineered for domestic waste only. The Owner will likely need to conh'act with a septic system cleaner to clean the septic tank every two years, ol as needed gauged by measutement of solids in the tank. The standards of performancs for the sepic system cleaner are recoiltmended to be the following, at a minimurn: 1. The Systems Cleaner shall be licensed. 2. The Systems Cleaner, when cleaning a septic tank, shall lemovs the liquid, sludge, and scum) leaving no mole than three (3) inches depth of sewage in a septic tank. 3.. The Systems Cleaner shall maintain his equipment so as to ensure that no spillage of se\ryage will occur during transportation, and that its employees are not sulrject to undue health hazards. 4. The Systems Cleaner shall dispose of the collected sewage only at a designatecl site recognized by the Board of Health. Construction Observation Pr-ior to being backfilled, the construction of the OV/TS and all of the components will need to be observed by representatives of Mountain Cross Engineering, Inc- The conclusions and opinions that are exprcssed above are based on the information available at t}e time of preparation of this report. Any additional infounation presented afterward may require that these opinions and the design be modified. Tharik you for the opporttrnity to provide this report.
