Carbondale, CO 81623
OWTS Permit #: SEPT-7288
November 9, 2023
Cathey,
Due to scheduling conflicts, Garfield County Public Health personnel were not able to inspect the
installation of the OWTS in person at 999 Wooden Deer Road. However, on October 16, 2023, the
contractor provided video and photographic documentation of the OWTS at the site of the Massey
Residence under construction at 999 Wooden Deer Road near Glenwood Springs in Garfield County,
Colorado pursuant to OWTS Permit # SEPT-7288. The contractor had installed the new sewer line and
cleanout adjacent to the residence, the new concrete 1,250-gallon two-compartment septic tank with an
effluent filter in the outlet tee of the tank, a new 500-gallon pump chamber with a high-head pump in the
chamber, the new pump line, and the Soil Treatment Area (STA) bed consisting of an unlined sand filter.
The septic tank and manifold were installed level with access to the tanks brought to grade. The
distribution laterals were installed level in 84 ARC 36 chambers with 1/8-inch diameter orifices spaced
every 5-feet facing upward, with the exception of the first and last orifices facing down. The bed was
constructed of a minimum of 4 feet of sand filter material and measured 12 feet by 105 feet (1,260 ft2 total
STA). The distribution laterals ended in a 90-degree bend facing up and a ball valve to facilitate flushing
of the laterals. Additionally, inspection ports were present at each corner of the bed. GCPH received an
as-built drawing and a letter from the designer certifying that the system was “generally installed
according to specifications”, as well as a pump start-up letter from Valley Precast that indicated the
system was functioning properly. In our opinion, this system was installed in general conformance with
Garfield County OWTS Regulations. No further action or review from Garfield County Environmental
Health is required regarding this permit.
