To whom it may concern,
On November 30, 2022, we visited the site where a commercial building was under construction
at 0062 County Road 113 near Carbondale in Garfield County, Colorado to observe the OWTS
installation pursuant to OWTS Permit # SEPT-5873. At the time of our site visit, the contractor had
installed the new sewer line, the new cleanout adjacent to the building, a new 1,000-gallon two-
compartment septic tank with an effluent filter in the outlet tee followed by a 2,000-gallon septic tank with
a pump in the second chamber of the tank, the pump line, and the 2,448 ft2 Soil Treatment Area (STA).
The contractor submitted photos to Garfield County showing the STA installation process. The septic and
pump tanks were installed level with access brought to grade. The STA consists of an unlined sand filter
constructed of a minimum of 2-feet of Secondary Sand Media, with distribution laterals encased in 12-
inches of 1.5-inch screened gravel. Additionally, inspection ports were present at each corner of the bed.
Garfield County Public Health received a letter from the design engineer (dated October 12, 2023) that
indicated the OWTS was constructed in accordance with the intent of the design. In our opinion, this
system was installed in general conformance with Garfield County OWTS Regulations. No further action
or review from Garfield County Environmental Health is required regarding this permit.
