Box 75% Fruita, Colorado 81521 Re: Foundation Observations, Garfield County Building Permit # BLRE-03-23-8044, 224 Limberpine Circle, Battlement Mesa, Colorado Mr. DiDonato: Edward M. Morris, P.E. of Grand Junction Lincoln DeVore, examined the open excavation on this site on 5- 26-2023. In -place probing and soil density testing of the reworked subgrade soils was performed. The in - place soil densities were found to range from 106 to 109 pounds per cubic foot. These soils are similar to the surface soils described in the Huddleston-Berry Engineering & Testing, LLC, Report of Geotechnical Investigation for this site, Project #02490-0001, dated June 21, 2022. The reworked subgrade soils were judged to be capable of supporting the structural fill. It was determined that a geotextile fabric for either separation or reinforcement was not required. Rex Goodrich, P.E. representing Grand Junction Lincoln DeVore, observed the recently placed structural fill on the above -referenced site on 6-3-2023. The structural fill was found to consist of approximately 12 inches of reworked native clayey silty and 12 inches of imported gravelly sand (ABC). In -place soil density tests taken on the structural fill indicated that compaction was either equal to or in excess of 90% of the modified proctor density (ASTM D-1557) for these materials. The structural fill appears to meet the minimum recommendations in the Report of Geotechnical Investigation performed by Huddleston-Berry Engineering & Testing, LLC and the foundation design prepared by Grand Junction Lincoln DeVore. At the request of Mr. DiDonato, the foundation concrete footing was checked for the maximum allowable bearing and the minimum allowable width. Assuming the Foundation Loads are to be computed as Dead Load +'/2 Live Load, the maximum allowable bearing will be 1500 psf for the soils, the minimum footing width would be 12" wide, producing a footing bearing range of 862psf to 1338 psf for the main load -bearing walls. The GJLD Foundation Design a minimum 14" wide footing as as that dimension is typically required to set a wide variety of concrete forms for an 8" stemwall. If construction allows the 12" wide footing, than Edward M. Moms, P.E. of Grand Junction Lincoln DeVore, Inc. will allow it for this structure.
