WASHINGTON. MONTE VISTA, CO Septic Tank Installation Guide San Luis Valley Precast tanks must be installed according to the State of Colorado and local regulations for septic tank installations. For information on regulations in your county please contact your local health department, land -use department or an approved licensed contractor. San Luis Valley Precast tanks comply with ASTM C1227-13 Standards and are constructed of 4500 psi concrete with 3" thick walls containing fiber reinforcement. Below are guidelines for installation and use of San Luis Valley Precast septic tank products. Site Selection • Install the tank in a non -traffic area; tanks are not traffic rated. This includes livestock traffic. • Allowable soil cover is 34 below finished grade depending on model and an external load of 100 psf. • Tank shall not be installed where the subsurface water level outside the tank exceeds the outlet pipe. Excavation • Hole should be approximately 18" larger than the outside dimensions of tank. The hole must not exceed 36" larger than the tank size to allow the tank to be set safely. • Bottom surface of hole should be uniformly level, with no rocks or hard surfaces protruding out of the ground; if in rocky conditions 4" of sand or gravel no larger than 3/" must be used to cover the bottom of the hole. • Excavation depth should be found by adding the height of the tank model, any sand/gravel needed below the tank and desired burial depth over the top. • Soil covering the tank shall not exceed 4'. • Backfill with suitable native soil; rocks must be no larger than 3" in diameter. • Backfill in 12" lifts, compacting each lift on all four sides of tank. • Soil covering tank should be sloped to prevent water from ponding near the tank. Limitations • Septic tanks shall not be used as sand or grease traps without proper adjustments. • Septic tanks shall only be buried to a maximum of 4' below ground level; anything exceeding this may compromise tank structure. • Septic tanks shall not be installed if the subsurface water level outside the tank meets the outlet. Additional Information • Effluent filters are available upon buyer's request and may be added at any time to the outlet sanitary tee. San Luis Valley Precast tanks come with watertight Tuf-Tite adaptors cast into both sides of the tank lid to allow access to the inlet and outlet compartment of the tank. If additional height is needed to bring the lids of the tank to surface, risers are available upon request.
