RE: Framing Inspection Items at the Orrison Residence

Daniel,
It is our understanding that the building inspector identified several framing items at the above-
referenced project that require engineer approval. Our office has reviewed the inspector’s
comments, and our responses are below.
· 7/8” diameter holes were field-drilled through the webs of several main floor joists at the
edge of the “no-drill” zone (6” from the end of the joists). The holes are approximately mid-
depth of the joists and located approximately 5½” – 7½” from the ends of the joists.
o Our office has analyzed the joists, and they are acceptable.
· Roof overframing needs to be reviewed and approved by engineer of record.
o Our office has reviewed pictures of the roof overframing at the garage dormers, rear
patio, and master bedroom. Based on our observations, the roof overframing is
acceptable.
· Wall framing supporting the diagonal braces for the garage awning roof does not match the
plans.
o Our office has reviewed pictures of the wall framing, and it is acceptable.
· Gable end overhang on the garage dormers was framed with 2x6 ladder blocking instead of
lookouts. This is acceptable for roof overhangs up to 12”.
