Proiect slructural drawings indicate design based on an assumed maximum allowable bearing pressure of 1,500 ps{. Encountered Conditions Excavatian Condilion:We observed the excavation for the proposed piers as located in the photo below, and found dense silty clays with sand wilh intermittent gravel and cobbles. Based upon our experience and on lhe IBC presumed soil load baring pressures in Table 1806.2, this soil type at the elevalions and time of our observations, likely meels or exc€eds the presumed allowable bearing pressures used in the design. Howover, the pres€nce of weaker subsurface soil layers resulting in allowable bearing pressures of less than 1,500 psf cannot be ruled out by surface observalions only. Quantitatively verifying soil bearlng capacity generally requires access to subsurface information and Standard Penetration test dala, lf this is desired, we recommend drilling and data collection be preformed.
