Soil Analysis and OWTS Design for 3724 County Road 214, Peach Valley
Acres, (Parcel # 217901304011) Silt CO 81652, Garfield County. 2 acre lot.
Replacement septic system.
PROPERTY DESCRIPTION AS IT PERTAINS TO THE SEPTIC SYSTEM
This property has 2 buildings, a 3 bedroom house and a shop building. The
proposed septic tank and soil treatment area will be based on the 3 bedroom
house.
The property currently has an existing 1000 gallon septic which will be
crushed in place and filled with native material or removed completely. The
existing soil treatment area (STA) will be abandoned.
The proposed STA area will be in a field East of the current house and South
of the shop building. The proposed STA is currently covered with naturally
occurring grasses. The proposed STA has a slight slope away to the S.
TEST PITS AND SOIL ANALYSIS
The test pits were excavated on March 13th 2026. 2 test pits were excavated
near the proposed STA, and an evaluation was performed by Tim Copeland,
who holds a Certificate of Completion from the CPOW Visual and Tactile
Evaluation of Soils Training.

The STA will be placed in the vicinity of soil evaluation of test pit #2 to avoid
the shallow R-type soils located near trench test pit #1. The infiltrative surface
will be placed at a maximum depth of 36” to provide the required 36” vertical
separation from pressurized distribution to the limiting layer. Soil type 3/LTAR
will be used in sizing calculations
Design calculations
3 bedrooms total: 150 gallons per day for all 3 bedrooms.
450 gal per day and a native soil type of 3 , LTAR =0.35
450 gal. per day / 0.35 gal. per day per SF =1286 SF
Adjustment factors
1286 SF * 0.8 pressure dose trenches * 0.7 chambers =721 SF
721 SF / 12 SF per unit = 61 units minimum or 244 ft of trench (round up units
to 64 units make each line equal length). 4 trenches with 16 Infiltrator per
trench.

grade to the septic tank. Full size Orenco effluent filter installed in the
outlet side of the 1000 gallon septic tank. The Orenco pump package
will be installed in the 500 gal single compartment tank. Risers will be
used to bring all lid openings to grade.
Install pump into pump tank including a weep hole for drainage and
prevent siphon. 2’ schedule 40 pipe shall be run from the pump to the
manifold and STA. 1.25 ” sch 40 pipe with 5/32” holes drilled up at 3’
on center shall be installed in the infiltrators and hung with zip ties. At
the beginning and end of each lateral, orifices shall be drilled facing
down. A flushing valve assembly will be at the end of each run. A
4
separate inspection port will be installed at the beginning and end of
each run.
The STA will consist of 4 runs. Each run will have 16 infiltrator and each
trench will be separated by 4’ minimum of undisturbed soil.
The trench shall be a maximum of 36” deep to provide the 36” of
vertical separation from a pressurized distribution to the limiting layer.
Cover shall consist of 1’ min. of soil on top that is capable of supporting
local vegetation.

Operation and Maintenance
The residents of the property should not put grease in the sink or flush
“flushable” wipes, they will reduce the life of the system. The system
should not have the water softener discharge into the OWTS.
The property owner is responsible for having the tanks maintained
(pumped and filters cleaned (ideally the filters should be cleaned
annually) ). Vehicles and heavy equipment shall not be driven over or
parked on the leach field.
High and low level alarms will have visual and audio notifications.
5
Installation Observation Request
Reliable Septic Solutions must view and accept the OWTS components
after they are installed but before they are backfilled. All OWTS
construction must be in accordance with the county regulations.
Please call with any questions
Sincerely, Tim Copeland
