RE: 4400 Bear Wallow Lane Access
August 6, 2026
The Glenwood Springs Fire Department conducted met with applicant April Rose and conducted site of
assessment of 4400 Bear Wallow Lane on July 28th 2026.
Although the location of this residence is just 5 miles from the closest station, travel time is exponential
due to topography of the private road. Emergency response to any calls of service in this area is limited
to apparatus that can handle the tight switchbacks and even road surface.
The applicant was advised to adjust the angle of approach/departure of the driveway and Bear Wallow
Lane to prevent vehicles grounding out. The surface of the driveway also needs to be maintained with
sufficient road base to handle vehicle traffic and a sign post with address marker prominently displayed.
The Glenwood Springs Fire Department can't guarantee fire response year round to this location if snow
removal and road maintenance is not performed on the main private road.
