t 3.0 MATERIALS
' 3.1 Pipe shall conform to the materials requirements and respective
specifications listed below.
' 3.1.1 Sewer pipe shall be high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe
of the size and standard dimension ratio (SDR) shown on
the drawings, and shall conform to ASTM Standard
Specification F714.
3.1.2 Septic tank leach field pipe shall be smoothwall high
density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe and shall conform to
ASTM Standard Specification F810.
3.1.2.1 Leach field pipe shall consist of both
perforated and non - perforated pipe, as shown on

1 3.2.4 Vendor's drawings for the proposed septic tank(s) shall
be submitted to the Engineer for approval.
' 3.3 Leach Field Components
t 3.3.1 Absorption trench gravel shall consist of clean, sound,
graded aggregate ranging in size from 1/2 -inch to
2 -1/2- inches.
4.0 INSPECTION OF MATERIALS AND TESTING
' 4.1 At the discretion of the Engineer, all materials furnished by
the Contractor will be subject to inspection at the
manufacturer's plant. In addition, all pipe and specified
materials are subject to inspection at the point of delivery by
the Engineer or through his inspectors.
Materials found to be defective due to manufacturer or damage
in shipment shall be rejected and removed from the jobsite.
4.2 The Owner or his representative may retain a Testing Agency to
perform inspection and testing of the work as installed.
5.0 HANDLING AND STORAGE OF MATERIALS
' 5.1 All materials shall be protected from damage in handling and
storage. Wherever the trench line is accessible to the pipe
delivery trucks, the pipe shall be strung along the side of the
trench in the customary manner. However, in tight spots, it
shall be necessary to unload and store the pipe some distance
away from the location where it eventually will be laid. Care
shall be taken to place the pipe on an area free of sharp
objects when the pipe is laid directly on the ground, to avoid
scarring or gouging the pipe. If the pipe is stacked for
storage, the height of the stack shall not exceed five feet.
1
6.0 INSTALLATION
6.1 All pipe shall be laid to the line and grade shown on the
drawings. There shall be a minimum of three (3) batter boards
in place and checked for line and grade at any time before
laying any pipe.
6.2 The interior of the sewer pipe shall be cleared of all dirt and

6.3 Any adjustments required to the line or grade of the pipe shall
be done by either scraping away the soil or filling in with
' adequate granular materials and tamping them firmly under the
body of the pipe. No blocking or wedging of the pipe will be
permitted.
6.4 Where "stubs" are installed, the open end of the stub shall be
fitted with a plug or a bulkhead properly placed to prevent any
debris or backfill from entering the pipe.
1 6.5 Joining of the high density polyethylene line pipe shall be by
the thermal butt fusion method in accordance with ASTM D2657.
1 6.5.1 The joining machine shall be supplied by the pipe vendor.
6.5.2 The Contractor shall follow the pipe vendor's
111 recommendations for joining the pipe.
6.6 Trenches shall be kept free of water and as dry as possible
' during bedding, laying, and jointing and for as long a period as
required. When work is not in progress, open ends of pipe and
fittings shall be satisfactorily closed so that no trench water
' or other material will enter the pipe or fittings.
6.7 As soon as possible after the pipe is placed in the trench,
sufficient backfill material shall be placed along the pipe to
1 prevent pipe movement off line or grade.
6.8 The Contractor shall install the septic tank(s) to the lines and
' grades shown on the drawings, in conformance with the septic
tank vendor's recommendations.
7.0 CAMPING
7.1 Completed sections of sewer shall be examined by "lamping"
