Re: Inland Mariculture Live Seafood Facility, Garfield County
Dear Jim:
I have reviewed the proposal for wastewater treatment facilities for the
Inland Mariculture Live Seafood Facility near Rifle and discussed the proposal
with our Ground Water and Industrial Permits Units in the Denver Office.
The proposal for wastewater treatment is to split the domestic type wastewater
from the industrial wastewater and treat each in a separate treatment system.
Since each system has a design flow less than 2000 gpd and has no direct dis-
charge, then the approval should be handled under the County's septic system
regulations as we have previously discussed. However, industrial treatment is
not necessarily addressed in the septic tank regulations; therefore, you re-
quested input from this Department.
In my discussions with our Denver office people, we concluded that having the
County issue the septic system permits was proper. The only requirement on
the system that our office might have would be related to the Colorado River
Basin Salinity Control Regulations due to the use of high salinity water in
the oyster growing operation. At this time no sampling requirements are
foreseen; however, sampling may be required in the future for salinity
control. We request at this time that representative sampling points be
provided in the influent and effluent pipes from the industrial septic tanks
and iVera proper 7Iow measuring device be installed.
Should you or Inland Mariculture have questions on this matter, please feel
free to contact me at 248 -7153.
Sincerely,
John R. Blair, P.E
