Job No. 4 338 90 Dear Mr. Jeffrey: As requested, Chen - Northern, Inc. has conducted a geologic reconnaissance and performed percolation tests for the proposed subdivision. The field work was performed on April 24 and 25, 1990. The geology and topography across the property is varied. The upper three lots (Lots 1, 2 and 3) are situated on an alluvial fan that could be impacted by minor debris flow. The primary development area, Lots 4 through 18, are situated on a gravel terrace that has been partly overridden by the alluvial fan. Eleven of these lots are near the edge of the terrace overlooking the flat pasture /common open space. Lot 19 is located on a narrow bench below the pasture and just above the 100 year flood plain limit. The property is underlain by the Eagle Valley Evaporite which contains gypsum beds and solution related sinkholes. A fairly large sinkhole is located at the north end of the pasture which was once a small pond. Other small sinkholes were observed at the south end of the pasture. Four percolation tests were conducted, one on Lots 2, 5, 9 and 16 near the proposed building envelopes. The percolation rates measured were between 20 and 60 minutes per inch. No free water was encountered to the profile pit depth of 8 feet. Based on our findings, the proposed residential development should be feasible from a geologic viewpoint. Infiltration septic disposal systems should be acceptable. The most significant geologic feature is the potential for sinkhole development, primarily within the lower part of the site where residences are not proposed. The feasibility of pond construction in the pasture area should be evaluated by subsurface exploration. We also recommend subsurface exploration for residential design on Lot 19 due to the potential for sinkhole development. Potential geologic impacts in the middle and upper parts of the site are relatively low. The tests were conducted in accordance with our agreement for geotechnical engineering services letter to you, dated April 20, 1990. The logs of the backhoe pit excavations and percolation test results are presented on Tables I and II, respectively. The profile and percolation pits were excavated on April 24 and the percolation tests were performed on April 25, 1990. The results indicate conventional infiltration. septic systems are acceptable at the site. We recr mnend percolation tests be performed at each lot as part of their design level development plans. Results of the geologic reconnaissance will be sent to you under separate cover when cwnpleted. If you have any questions or if we can of further assistance, please let us kncx4.
