From: Art Hougland, Chief Building Official Date: August 30. 1994 Subject: Sizing of septic tank and leaching field for existing shop facility of approximately 2,940 square feet and a probable future office and storage expansion of approximately 700 square feet. Under the 1988 Uniform Building Code currently adopted by Garfield County the maximum Occupancy Load permitted is fifteen (15) persons. The maximum office Occupancy Load less the storage is estimated to be four (4) persons. Using the guidelines proposed for adoption at the end of this month by the Colorado Department of Health, the following has been determined: 1. Table I indicates the gpd (gallons/person/day) (average) for factory or plant (the occupancy most closely resembling the Pro Sports occupancy) to be 20 gpd per 15 maximum persons, or 300 gpd total. 2. Table I indicates the gpd for office personnel to be 15 gpd, or 60 gpd total. 3. The total gpd of 360 x 150% = 540 gpd total. 4. The State formula for absorption area for the confirmed percolation rate for the area of the leaching field indicates the area required to be approximately 360 square feet for a standard gravel leaching bed. This would indicate that for an "Infiltrator" or "Contactor" system bed this could be reduced to 216 square feet (12 pieces of Infiltrator or 14 pieces of Contactor). In addition, for the "Infiltrator" system in a trench the absorption field can be further reduced to 180 square feet (10 pieces of Infiltrator).
