The septic tank, which was of precast concrete, was visible. During this visit, we recommended additional locations for percolation tests. Then on October 24, HCE personnel conducted percolation tests at the site. The average of the rates was slightly over 60 minutes per inch. However, the slowest rate was approximately 80 minutes per inch. We recommend that a standard absorption system be used, but that its size be based on the slower perc rate. For a three bedroom residence, the design flow rate is 675 gallons per day. The required absorption area is 1208 square feet. If Infiltrator trenches are used, the required area could be reduced to 604 square feet. At 18.75 square feet per unit, this would be 33 units.
