Consulting Engineers and Hydrologists February 20, 1996 Mr. Jim Frey Frey Construction 85 Tanager Drive —• sec sKLr4e &ace Glenwood Springs, CO 81601 ` m'` 7 - RE: ISDS for Lot 20, Los Amigos Ranch /X4 bt Dear Jim: This letter is to provide the recommended design of the individual sewage disposal system for Lot 20 of Los Amigos Ranch Subdivision No. 2 in Garfield County. Soil percolation testing performed by Hepworth - Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc. indicated on -site percolation rates from 15 to 60 minutes /inch with an average percolation rate o 35 inutes /inch. A soil profile pit indicated subsoils of gravel, cobble and boulder -size basalt rock in a silty sand matrix. Practical refusal to - digging was encountered at 6.5 feet, probably on basalt rock. Hepworth- Pawlak's report indicates that the site should be suitable for a conventional infiltration sewage disposal system, and that a mounded system will probably be needed due to apparent shallow basalt rock. I recommend the installation of a conventional septic tank and leachfield • system with 29 "Infiltrator" leachfield chambers in trenches. The design of the leachfield is based upon a soil percolation rate of 60 minutes per inch; a copy of the design calculations is attached. A percolation rate of 60 minutes per inch rather than the average rate of 35 minutes per inch has been used to allow for the presence of rock in the subsoil beneath the leachfield chambers. Additional requirements include a maximum trench depth of 2.5 feet to allow a minimum of 4 feet between the bottom of the leachfield and the potential bedrock depth of 6.5 feet, and a requirement to notify the system design engineer in the event that bedrock is encountered within any trench excavation. The sewage disposal system should be installed in accordance with the attached Construction Specifications. If you have any questions, please give me a call. The original design was described in my letter to you dated February 20, 1996 and in the Construction Specifications attached to my previous letter. The recommended revisions to the design and Construction Specifications are outlined below: 1. The leachfield should consist of 32 "Infiltrator" leachfield chambers in a bed configuration. This design is based upon a soil percolation rate of 50 minutes per inch: a copy of the revised design calculations is attached. 2. The revised Construction Specifications (dated 3/4/96) are attached. The specifications have been revised to conform with a bcd configuration for the 32 leachfield chambers rather than trenches. The purposed of these design revisions is to allow the leachfield to be installed with a minimum amount of disturbance to existing trees. If you have any questions, please give me a call.
