RE: , Revised Individual Sewage Disposal System Design
Lot 7, Springridge Subdivision, Garfield County, Colorado •
• John & Theresa Traul, Owners
Dear Mr. Owens:
•
The purpose of this letter is to provide you with a revision of an individual
sewage disposal system (ISDS) design for the above - referenced property. The
revisions to the original ISDS design, which was presented in m o ou dated •
May 6, •1996, affect only the general layout and the type of graveless leaching chamber
used to construct the soil absorption trenches. The design criteria, such as the
estimated wastewater flowrate and the required soil absorption area, are not affected ,
by this revision. The revised ISDS design presented here conforms to the regulations
set forth in the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE)
Guidelines on Individual Sewage Disposal Systems (Revised 1994).
Desion Criteria
1
The ISDS for this property has been sized to accommodate the wastewater flow
from a residence . having up to four bedrooms. The calculated design . flow is 720
gallons per day (gpd) and the required soil absorption area is 910 square feet. The
original design of the soil absorption trenches called for two Sets of two 75 -foot
trenches (utilizing standard Infiltrator graveless leaching chambers) connectdd in
series that would be operated as alternating leach fields.
f
The revised absorption trench design utilizes five 50 -foot trenches (utilizing the
new Infiltrator® Equalizer 36 chamber) operated in parallel. The required total length of
the absorption trenches was calculated based on information contained in a letter from
Thomas Bennett, CDPHE ISDS Program Coordinator, to Mr. Jim Bransfield of Infiltrator
Systems, Inc., dated May 17, 1996 (copy attached).

Revised ISDS Design ,
The CRPHE has approved the Infiltrator Equalizer 36 chamber for use in r
Colorado at an equivalency of 31.93 square feet of absorption area per unit when used
in a trench configuration. The required soil absorption area for this ISDS is 910 square ,
feet, which would require a minimum of 29 Infiltrator Equalizer 36 chamber units. I
have revised the design of the absorption area to include a total of.30 Infiltrator
Equalizer 36 chamber units (six units in each of five trenches), which is' equivalent to .
approximately 958 square feet. This revised soil absorption area design should be
adequate to dispbse of the septic, tank effluent at this property. '
Revised ISDS
The revised ISDS will consist of a 1,500 - gallon septic tank, a distribution box
• and five subsurface soil absorption trenches. The materials and methods of
construction are described in myoriginal letter of May 6, 1995 and shown on the r
attached drawings. The revised layout and materials used in the construction of the
soil absorption trenches are shown in the drawing attached to this letter.
Summary -
Kaye revised the design for•an ISDS at the property owned by John and ,
. Theresa Traul, located on Lot 7 of the Springridge subdivision in Garfield'County,
• Colorado. The ISDS design concept, which utilizes.a septic tank for treatment of
domestic . sewage and soil absorption for disposal of the effluent, remains the same as ,
in my original letter to you dated May 6, 1996. The original design assumptions rOmain ,
the same, only the type of graveless chamber and the layout of the soil absorption
trenches have been revised: Please feel free 6 contact me at (970) 247 -0500 if you
have any questions or comments regarding this revised ISDS design.
Sincerely, 4 ,. , i

Mr. Jim Bransfield
District Manager
Infiltrator Systems Inc.
1087 South Downing Street
Denver, CO 80209
Dear Jim:
I have reviewed the literature and your calculations with respect
to the Infiltrator Equalizer 36 chamber. The Equalizer 36 is
hereby approved for use in Colorado in accordance with the
provisions of Section VIII.C. of the Guidelines On Individual
Sewage Disposal Systems.
I concur with your calculations regarding the absorptive area
equivalence for the Equalizer 36 chamber. As per your calculations
the bottom area for each chamber unit is provides 24.99 square feet
of absorptive area in a trench application and 20.8 square feet in
a bed system. Sidewall area would add an additional 6.94 square
feet for a total absorptive area of 31.93 square feet per Equalizer
36 unit in a trench system. No additional credit would be
available for sidewall in bed designs.
Therefore, the Division hereby approves the Equalizer 36 chamber
for use in Colorado at an equivalency of 31.93 square feet unit in
a trench configuration and 20.8 square feet per unit in a bed
configuration. These figures are based on the design
specifications presented in your letter of March 4, 1996. Use and
equivalency approvals are subject to the acceptance of same by
local health agencies.
Sincerely,
,4,..e../
