IT: September 22, 1997 John Quinn Quinn Builders P. O. Box 3411 Glenwood Springs, CO 81601 Re: Los Adobes, Lot 6, ISDS HCE File Number 95004.16 Dear Mr. Quinn: This letter is in response to your request for us to review a previous ISDS design for this lot and comment on its adequacy for your currently proposed construction. Therefore, HCE personnel reviewed the ISDS design previously prepared for the Holbrook Residence which was to be located on Lot 6 of the Los Adobes Subdivision in Garfield County. That residence was proposed to have a total of four bedrooms located in two buildings. Our understanding is that your proposed residence will have only two bedrooms, but that you wish to design the system for a total of three bedrooms. We believe that the previous design is still appropriate with the following recommendations: 1. Since a single building is proposed, the septic tank can be located closer to the residence. We would still recommend a 1250 gallon tank, but the minimum size required would be 1000 gallon. 2. We recommend the addition of a siphon dosing tank to allow more even distribution of effluent over the sand filter, and distribution of the effluent over a greater area of the native ground. The siphon should be a Fluid Dynamics Model 423T, please see the enclosed detail. 3. The size of the mound/sand filter can be reduced because of the reduction from four bedrooms to three bedrooms. The minimum gravel base area will be 710 square feet, and the minimum sand base area will be 1350 square feet. The width of the bed should remain the same, but the length can be reduced from 80 feet to 60 feet. 923 Cooper Avenue • Glenwood Springs, CO 81601 Telephone: (970) 945 -8676 • FAX: (970) 945 -2555 Quinn Builders September 22, 1997 Page 2 Note that no percolation test was performed due to the presence of shallow bedrock, however, the minimum basal area was based on a relatively conservative loading rate of 0.5 gallon per square foot per day.
