Box 1128 Carbondale, CO 81623 Attention: Mr. Tom Provost Subject: Percolation Test Results Black Magic Welding County Road 154 Garfield County, Colorado Job No. GS -2701 Gentlemen: This letter presents results of percolation testing at the site of the proposed Black Magic Welding building to be construction adjacent to County Road 154 in Garfield County, Colorado. We have previously published a soils and foundation investigation dated May 27, 1999 under this job number. Percolation testing was performed to aid in the design of an Individual Sewage Disposal System (ISDS) for the proposed building and design of a dry well system for disposal of surface run -off. Locations of the test pits are presented on Figure 1. A profile pit was excavated in both the ISDS area and the proposed dry well area. The depth of the profile pits were between 8 and 10 feet deep. The profile pit in the ISDS area encountered native gravels to a depth of 10 feet. The profile pit in the dry well area encountered 4 feet of man placed fill underlain by native gravel to the total explored depth of 8 feet. Due to safety reasons percolation testing was not performed in the deeper test pits. Test pits (P -1, P -2 and P -3) were excavated to a depth of approximately 3 feet deep with the owners backhoe. A test hole 6 to 8 inches in diameter was hand excavated an additional 10 to 14 inches. Percolation testing was performed without saturating the test holes. In our opinion, due to the non - expansive nature of the granular soil saturation for 24 hours would have insignificant effect on the test results. Test results are presented on the attached Figure 2. We recommend using a design percolation rate of 3 minutes per inch. In our opinion, this soil is not appropriate for a normal Individual Sewage Disposal System, however, the dry well system for surface run -off may be appropriate. • We appreciate the opportunity to work with you on this project.
