The concrete piers were originally designed to support the concrete grade beams by a combination of end bearing and side shear. Based upon recommendations by Chen - Northern, Inc., an alternate drilled pier size of 24" diameter should be used. Full end bearing of the piers on the lower silty, gravelly clays should be provided.
