PERMISSION IS HEREBY GRANTED TO THE APPLICANT AS OWNER. CONTRACTOR AND /OR THE AGENT OF THE CONTRACTOR OR OWNER TO
CONSTRUCT THE STRUCTURE AS DETAILED ON PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS SUBMITTED TO AND REVIEWED BY THE BUILDING DEPARTMENT
IN CONSIDERATION OF THE ISSUANCE OF THIS PERMIT THE SIGNER HEREBY AGREES TO COMPLY WITH ALL BUILDING CODES AND LAND USE
REGULATIONS ADOPTED BY GARFIELD COUNTY PURSUANT TO AUTHORITY GIVEN IN 30.28.201 CRS AS AMENDED. THE SIGNER FURTHER
AGREES THAT IF THE ABOVE SAID ORDINANCES ARE NOT FULLY COMPLIED WITH IN THE LOCATION, ERECTION, CONSTRUCTION AND USE OF

CONTRACTOR'S COPY OF THE APPROVED PLANS. THIS PLAN REVIEW IS
PROVIDED IN CONJUNCTION WITH OR IN PLACE OF REDLINING THE

Subject: Permit to repair fire damage to garage at the home of Mr. Robert
Emerson at 0041 Stage Coach Cir. at The Ranch at Roaring Fork in
Garfield County, Colorado.
I visited the site of Mr. Emerson's home this morning to view the damage caused by
a fire on Sunday, February 19, 1995. Some charring was evident on the roof joists
and sheathing above the seat of the fire. The roof joists are 2 "x 6" @ 24" o.c. and
span about 12 '. I was not able to determine the thickness of the plywood sheathing.
Damage was more extensive to a portion of the South wall.
Mr. Emerson plans to replace the damaged portion of the South wall, sand blast the
char from the existing roof joists and sheathing and add 2 "x 6" joists between the
existing joists. This will be acceptable for maintaining the required live loads for
the roof provided the damage to the sheathing is not more extensive than it appears
at this time. If this is the case, repair may be appropriate for the sheathing.
The heat may have damaged the felt underlayment for the Shake shingle roof and
cause it to leak. Mr. Emerson and the contractor (not yet determined) will try to
determine if this is the case and necessary repairs will be made. The gypsum
wallboard between the garage and the house was slightly damaged and this portion
is to be repaired with 5/8" Type X gypsum wallboard to provide the required fire
protection between the house and garage.
Because of my site visit and discussion with Mr. Emerson no plans will be required
with the permit application, however, all repairs made are required to comply with
requirements of the 1988 Uniform Building Code adopted by Garfield County.
