HomeMy WebLinkAbout04 Landscape PlanLandscape Plan The area proposed for the campground development lies on an segment at the west end of the 20 acre parcel. The site is primarily flat and sits about 20 feet lower than the adjacent Alfalfa field. Elk Creek runs nearby and there is a gently graded stream bank descending toward the creek from about 35 feet away. There is a moderate density of mature Narrowleaf Cottonwood (Populus angustifolia) trees throughout. There is also a moderate amount of young to medium aged Cottonwood trees. The east perimeter is heavily vegetated. There is a variety of oak brushes on the eastern hillside above the campground. Gamble Oak (Quercus gambelii) is the dominant species throughout the property. Rocky Mountain Juniper (Juniperus scopulorum) can also be located on the eastern perimeter. Closer to the river and towards the south there are numerous Rocky Mountain Maple (Acer glabrum) bushes. The ground cover consists of a variety of native grasses. Vegetation Manager, Steve Anthony, met on site for a walk through and concluded there were no invasive species of weeds in the area. The owner of the property has a great record of weed management throughout the entire parcel. The attention to appropriate invasive weed control will continue during and after development of project. Methods of management will consist of mainly mechanical control, i.e. hand pulling and mowing and, if necessary, chemical control will be employed as well. For any revegetation efforts necessary, developers will deploy a seed mix at recommendation of Mr. Anthony. The vegetation in place plays a very important part in the success of the proposed campground. The canopy cover will be relied upon for shade, to keep the area cool during the summer months. The trees and bushes also play a role in offering a sense of separation and privacy to the campsites. Thriving flora gives the area its sense of place and will be protected and enhanced. Removal of any trees or other plant life will be kept to an absolute minimum to preserve this asset. Site planner has taken measures to design around and maintain mature foliage growth.
