HomeMy WebLinkAbout10 Wastewater Management and System PlanWastewater Management and System Plan The current plan for management of waste on the proposed campground is to utilize portable toilets for the six months of the year in which the camping area is operational. There is no sewer in the area of the proposed development. The toilets themselves would be of the standard variety offered by numerous companies currently being vetted for use. These units would include hand sanitation accessories inside. The camping area would provide two toilets; one for men and one for women. The location of the toilets will be, as seen on the site plan, in the northeastern corner of the camping area. This location has been strategically chosen for numerous reasons. First, this area is the highest point and farthest from the river in the campground and will mitigate flood risk from Elk Creek. Next, dense vegetation around the area allows for the toilets to preside in a spot hidden from adjacent properties. Finally, the chosen location allows for ease of regular cleaning and maintenance of the facilities. In order to maintain the natural aesthetic of the area, developers plan to erect 3 -sided decorative enclosures to insert the portable toilets into. This will hide the plastic walls from view, while still allowing easy access for cleaning and use. Local providers will be used for the rental and regular, professional servicing of the toilets. The toilets will be in place from the months of May through October. During the months that the camping area is not operational, the portable toilets will be removed from the property. In speaking with multiple toilet rental providers, this plan is completely feasible and could be carried out professionally and with upmost levels of sanitation (see attached letter from Mountain Waste & Recycling). The utilization of portable, temporary facilities is a more environmentally sound practice than development of a larger permanent latrine on-site. According to Doug Goldsmith, Sales Manager for Mountain Waste & Recycling, it would be the recommendation that one unit be serviced once a week for every 10 users. A similar recommendation was received from United Site Services. With the maximum number of sites (10 sites) and 2 people per site, with no vacancies; the toilet would see 20 users per day. With 20 users and one weeks use; the expert recommendation will be satisfied by service once per week. The campground will provide two toilets that are to be professionally serviced once per week.
